There is a pearl in each of us! They come in the form of our life’s experiences. Sometimes they are the irritants, sandpapers, and splinters we come across in life. They push us to fight for our life’s purpose. They become the pearls of our lives after we have overcome the storm, fire, and turbulence we encountered. Do not throw away your pearls, use them as a force that will become a part of the pillars of your life’s journey. Journal and write about them!
“Writing a book is a personal experience, it’s like birthing something that has been hidden in a treasure inside each one of us. They were placed there and sealed for an appointed time.” -Dr. Simi Adigun-
However, this journey isn’t for the faint of heart. Writing a book that will impact the lives of others also requires patience, a conscious effort, and determination. Otherwise, you will not be able to sit down and start writing or journaling. This is work that would need to be developed, sifted through, and brought out of the hidden depths of your heart. This can be compared to the same process it takes a natural pearl to form and develop into that exquisite gemstone. The stories we write can come out of the experiences of our lives, ideas, short stories, animal characters, or true-life stories. There is never a perfect time to write a book because there is always something that will be pining for our attention.
We all have something that we can share with others from our everyday lives and experiences. These experiences that we go through when summed up can be written out in the form of a journal, or simply notes. Whatever our story may be, we have the power to make our stories become beautiful treasures that can be passed down from generation to generation. I will share some of the processes that will help you write your book. Everybody is different and we all have different writing styles, the suggestion below may not work for everyone but it works for me. Nevertheless, do what works for you, the main thing is to start the journey to writing your book.
Writing Your Book
After writing two books of my own, I have come up with a process that helps me make sure my book is complete from start to finish. These steps include the following
- Take notes by writing down your ideas, or thoughts that come to you early in the morning before the hustle and bustle of the day.
- Learn to journal. Write about your experiences, events of your day, your dreams that you have in the night, and impressions.
- Take time to be by yourself, you can call this your “quiet time” or “me time.”
- Keep a recorder with you or use your phone to record those great ideas or thoughts that light up while out of your office or while up and about.
Once you have written down your ideas or thoughts for your book, you are now ready to turn it into your book outline. Your outline becomes your roadmap to developing the story. Use this outline to start developing your book. Or if you have blogs, journals, devotionals that you would like to turn into a book, you can pick from each of the contents and make that your outline for the book.
Other Steps
If you want to write about yourself or an event that happened in your life, you can look at the timeline of your life from a young age and make notes of each event. You could also write about your:
- passion,
- experiences
- friendships
- or what you wanted to be or become as a young child, and so on.
If you want to write fiction books, you can start with the different characters and make notes about the roles of each one of them. This will help as you continue to start developing the events and the main plot of the story. You can also decide on what you want the plots to be about and write it down. Do not judge what you have written down. You will be able to edit or make corrections to your story as you continue to work on the manuscript.
Having said all that, I have come to understand that everyone is different, therefore, do whatever works for you as you begin to write your book. The main goal is not to give up, but to persevere!
What we are to be or become is already planted inside each one of us. Our passions and hobbies can reveal what God has written in our destiny, to do and to become.
Now, why wait, pick up your pen or your laptop and start writing! If you need further help with how to put your thoughts in a book, you can give us a call or contact us. We will be happy to guide you on how to turn your thoughts and ideas into that inspirational book.
I pray that your scroll will be opened, and your destiny fulfilled!
Blessings,
